    UPCOMING EXHIBITIONS
    It has been said that to possess any amount of gold ignites an insatiable desire to obtain more. Through the centuries, gold has inspired people to create legends, fight wars, and travel to unknown destinations. Your quest for gold need only be as far as the Bowers Museum.

This spring, the Bowers Museum proudly presents two exhibits focusing exclusively on Gold. California Gold, opening February 25, and Sacred Gold: Pre-Hispanic Art of Colombia, which opens March 31 2012. Visitors will see immeasurable riches in these two exhibitions including: stunningly beautiful specimens of native California gold; coins, bullion, and recovered treasure from sunken ships, including the famous “Atocha Cross;” and more than 200 exquisite pre-Hispanic gold masterpieces–National treasures of Colombia, which fueled the myth of the lost city of gold – El Dorado, when discovered by Spanish conquistadors in the 16th century.

Sacred Gold: Pre-hispanic Art of Colombia

This spring encounter the marvels of the world’s finest collection of Pre-hispanic gold, on loan from the renowned Museo del Oro of Bogotá, Colombia. National treasures and more than two hundred other exquisite gold figures and ornaments in this stunning exhibition give testament to the unparalleled mastery of gold, a sacred material considered a gift from the gods.
