Lecture and concert by scholar Maja Trochimczyk, Ph.D., music historian, and Wojciech Kocyan, piano professor at Loyola Marymount University about Maria Szymanowska, 19th century Polish pianist-composer (1789-1831), the Court Pianist of the Tsarinas. Her musical salon in St. Petersburg gathered aristocracy, poets and artists and her romantic piano music inspired Chopin. Co-sponsored by Moonrise Press. Then enjoy a stimulating lecture at 8 PM! 5 PM – 8 PM (Exhibitions, Gallery Store & Tangata) Program 8 PM – 9 PM (seating begins at 7:30 PM in the Norma Kershaw Auditorium) The Medici: Collectors of the Rare, Unique and Beautiful As the wealth and political power of the Medici family grew, so did their love of collecting art, books, gems, minerals, and artifacts from antiquity. Discover the Studiolo of the Medici, a special room set up for studying these objects, and learn why the Renaissance was such an important time in Western culture. Presented by Tim Adams, Curatorial Consultant of Decorative Arts.
