ARCE Archeology Lecture Series: Rewriting a Tired Screenplay: The Identity and Influence of the Hyksos

Ongoing excavations at their capital city, Tell el Dab’a (ancient Avaris), are providing a vast quantity of new information about the Hyksos rulers of the Second Intermediate Period and their immigrant subjects. This talk will present new interpretations of the Hyksos’ tactics of identity signaling and administration, as well as reveal their long-lasting influence on Egyptian language, technology, and kingship in the New Kingdom.
