Art in Context Part 5: Titian and High Renaissance Art in Venice

Art in Context 6-Part Lecture Series: Masters of Italian Art: The High Renaissance in Rome, Florence, and Venice

Presented by Dr. Lisa Boutin Vitela, Professor of Art History, Cerritos College

Part 5: Titian and High Renaissance Art in Venice
Situated on the Adriatic Sea and removed from many of the cultural influences of Rome and Florence, the Renaissance arrived late in Venice. This session explores the work of Tiziano Vecellio, or Titian. The painter’s ever-evolving style fused the grandeur of High Renaissance Italy with the lush colors of Venice, a unique and opulent locale situated on the threshold of Western Europe and the Byzantine world.
