Timeless Melodies: 1939: The Year in Music
Talks

Presented by Larry Maurer, historian of the Timeless Melodies Foundation for Education, Inc.
Hear the soundtrack of a remarkable year in U.S. history, marked by a lingering Great Depression, a world careening toward war, the opening of the New York World Fair, and Frank Sinatra’s first recording. The number of musical films declined, but Mickey Rooney, Judy Garland, Deanna Durbin, Eleanor Powell, and Betty Grable lit up the Silver Screen. While Hollywood looked to South America for new talent, Americans at home danced to the big band sound.
