CANCELLED - Timeless Melodies: Rodgers & Hammerstein

This program is now cancelled. Ticketholders will be notified. The speaker plans to host the program online via ZOOM in November and in-person at the Bowers Museum in December. We apologize for any inconveniences this may cause.

Take a nostalgic walk down memory lane with music and more presented by Larry Maurer, historian of the Timeless Melodies Foundation for Education, Inc.

The Timeless Melodies salute to Richard Rodgers continues with America’s greatest Broadway team. Oklahoma!, Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I, and The Sound of Music says everything about this extraordinary duo. Richard Rodgers’ music and Oscar Hammerstein’s lyrics tackled a variety of social issues and transformed musical comedy into dramatic musical theater. No other team was ever more eloquent at revealing the challenges of human relationships. It’s no surprise that their shows dominated the Broadway stage for nearly two decades.
