Virtual Public Tour: The McCloskey Collection

Virtual Public Tour

Elements of Art: McCloskey Revealed

A tour of the late 19th-early 20th century McCloskey Collection will deepen your understanding of some of the essential elements of art: color, line, and perspective. This husband and wife team, William and Alberta McCloskey, created a treasure trove of still life and portrait paintings that are remarkable in their exacting depiction of surface, light and shadow. The married artists' path is a story in itself and, as the paintings are examined, so is the trajectory of their explosive relationship. Some rarely seen works are included as we take a behind the scenes peek inside the museum's collections storage.
