ONLINE: Everest on Film with Alasdair MacLeod + Live Q&A

Presented by Alasdair MacLeod, Head of Enterprise and Resources at the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG)

The Royal Geographical Society in London holds the world’s earliest archive of original films documenting Everest expeditions from 1922 to 1953. From the drama of the first film to show the mountain and the peoples of the Himalayas to western audiences, captured by Captain John Noel, to the remarkable ‘Wings over Everest’ with breath-taking footage of the first flights to be made above the world’s highest mountain, to the moment when in 1953 Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay returned successfully from their attempt to reach its summit, this lecture combines extracts from these remarkable early documentary films with a sense of the anticipation, awe and wonder of the first audiences to see them.

Watch the presentation and then join us for a live Zoom Q&A with Alasdair MacLeod! This is an opportunity for the audience to ask Alasdair MacLeod their questions!
