Spirited by her dreams, devotion, love and faith, Guo Pei continues to astound and push the boundaries of design through intricate embroidery techniques, stunning textiles, and gravity defying silhouettes.

 About the Speaker

Carmela Spinelli is SCAD’s resident fashion historian and recruitment specialist with over 20 years of experience in education and the fashion industry. Spinelli is the former Chair of Fashion and Accessories Design at SCAD and serves as lead fashion historian and industry mentor for the SCADpro x Chanel Asia Pacific project, now in its 3rd year.

Spinelli lectures extensively on design, fashion history and the fashion business, at institutions such as the Musee des arts decoratifs in Paris, the University of San Geronimo, Havana, Cuba; The National Institute of Fashion, Mumbai, The Beijing Institute of Fashion, The Victoria and Albert Museum, London, The Bowers Museum ,Santa Ana The Asia Civilization Museum in Singapore, The Brooklyn Museum and the National Arts Club.

Prior to joining SCAD, she served as associate chair of the department of fashion design at Parsons The New School for Design with renowned chair Tim Gunn. She was an executive at Céline, an LVMH company, and CCO of Three Wildcats, a retail development firm. She is the recipient of the Lisa Taylor Fellowship from Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum, and a Historic Preservation Award from Historic Savannah Foundation. She holds a master’s degree in the History of Design and Curatorial Studies from Parsons The New School for Design.
