New Perspectives on Israelite Religion with Ido Koch
Talks
SUNDAY | OCTOBER 20
1:30 – 3 PM | NORMA KERSHAW AUDITORIUM | DISTINGUISHED LECTURE
Presented by Ido Koch, Associate Professor of Archaeology at Tel Aviv University.
Recent archaeological discoveries in key Israelite sites challenge traditional understandings of ancient Israelite religious practice. This lecture will present these new findings, emphasizing their significance for reinterpreting crucial aspects of Israelite religion. Topics include the prevalence of multiple temples, the sensory experience of worship, the use of religious imagery, and the role of altered states of consciousness in ritual practice. These discoveries provide valuable insights into the complexities and diversity of religious life in ancient Israel.
This lecture is part of the Archaeology of the Biblical Lands Distinguished Lecture Series, made possible through a generous bequest by Norma Kershaw (1924-2020).
Ticketed Onsite Event: Members $15 | General $20
