ARCE-OC: Death of Tutankhamun with Dr. W. Benson Harer, Jr

W Benson Harer, Jr, MD is an avid scholar of Ancient Egypt and practiced OB/GYN in San Bernardino and Riverside for almost 50 years.

How did King Tut die? CT scans of the mummy were done in 2007 with more clues. Dr Harer was the only physician allowed full access to the Tutankhamun CT scans other than Zahi Hawass's select committee which voted 2 out of 3 to declare a broken leg as the cause of death. Dr Harer's reading showed that he was embalmed without his heart and much of his chest wall, and that the injury which caused this was the true cause of death. The most likely explanation for this extraordinary departure from the norm for embalming New Kingdom royalty was because those tissues were not available to the embalmers. This talk will show how the evidence from the mummy indicates the most likely cause of death to be as the result of an attack by a hippo. A less likely cause is death at the hands of man.
