The cochineal insect from the nopal cactus in Mexico revolutionized fabric dyeing processes when it was imported into Europe after the Spanish conquest. Used, presently, as a natural food coloring, it also makes an interesting medium for painting on fabric. Enhance a stamped piece of fabric with sharpies and cochineal dyes to produce your own piece of unique art.
