SATURDAY | OCTOBER 18 | 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM | Norma Kershaw Auditorium | Onsite Book Discussion & Tour

For Bowers Members Only: A Book Club Experience Books at Bowers: Touring Through the Pages is a Bowers Docent Guild sponsored book club that pairs a topical book with a museum art experience. The October book selection is The Fabric of Civilization: How Textiles Made the World by Virginia Postrel. In this expansive global history of textiles, Postrel showcases the development of textiles from Neanderthal string to Romans wearing Chinese silk, and to funding the Renaissance and Mughal Empire. The book’s scope highlights how textiles have driven technology, politics, culture, and business in the story of humanity’s most influential commodity. The book is the perfect precursor to Global Threads: India’s Textile Revolution, opening in December. A docent-led museum tour will follow each discussion. Space is limited to 30 members per day. A confirmation email will be sent to participants prior to the event.
