NORMA KERSHAW AUDITORIUM | DISTINGUISHED LECTURE

Presented by Dr. Feng Li, Professor of Early Chinese History and Archaeology, Columbia University

The great human statues and artifacts currently on exhibit at Bower invoke the image of a majestic ancient empire, Qin, that once ruled the eastern Asian world. But how did the Qin Empire begin? In 1993, a discovery made at Dabuzishan in Gansu Province, with artists soon to surface in the antiques markets in Paris and New York, dating to the 7th century BCE, opened a new era in the search of the early development of the Qin Empire. This was followed by a series of new findings along the route of Qin’s migration eastward, reaching the great preimperial Qin metropolis at Yongcheng in Shaanxi Province. This lecture offers a rare opportunity to explore the rise of the Qin Empire, evidenced step by step by field archaeology.

This lecture is generously sponsored by the Medellas Endowment.

Ticketed Event: Members $15 | General $20 | Purchase individually or as part of a 6-part series package.
