Why Now

90 years ago, Bowers Museum was established as the premier cultural institution in Orange County. At the same time, the famous avant-garde art patron Yashwant Rao Holkar II (1908–1961), the last ruling Maharaja of Indore (1926–1948), made the museum’s neighborhood his home in Santa Ana, where he constructed an elegant Art Deco/Bauhaus style palatial estate for entertainment and raising his daughter, Usha Devi Holkar, the 15th Maharani of Indore and the current titular head of state.

At this remarkable event, guests will experience the opulent era of the Maharaja’s life in Southern California, overflowing with champagne, cuisine, elegance, music and artistry. Join this celebration of South Asian culture in support of the Bowers Museum’s popular exhibition Global Threads: India’s Textile Revolution.

The Purpose

The Bollywood Bash is the key fundraiser for Global Threads: India’s Textile Revolution and the related educational programming. It also punctuates Bowers Museum’s 90th anniversary year!

We aim to engage generations of South Asian Americans and the global South Asian diaspora, building meaningful connections while embracing all cultures and expanding public programs throughout Southern California and beyond.
