Festivals, Fairs & Rituals: Textiles, Costumes and Carpets of the Eastern Grasslands of Tibet with Cheri Hunter

Presented by Cheri Hunter, Photographer, Writer and Textile Collector

In 2006, Cheri Hunter traversed the grasslands of the Tibetan Plateau in a group with 4-wheel drive vehicles, photographing traditional Tibetan festivals, and Buddhist and shaman rituals, several of which have since disappeared. Her article and photo spread were originally published in HALI magazine (Issue 154.) Join Ms. Hunter as she shares her experience and images, with a closer look at both the local and imported textiles and rugs in use throughout the grasslands, as well as in the shaman rituals and horse competitions, where all of the participants, including the horses, are dressed in their best.
