Mexican Day of the Dead

Mexican Day of the Dead
Sunday, November 5 | 11 am – 3 pm

Enjoy a full day of creativity and culture celebrating Mexican Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos). Explore a lineup of activities and live performances the whole family will enjoy. Stop by our special community ofrenda (memorial altar) in honor and remembrance of your loved ones with a photo or trinket held in the Bowers Museum Historic Courtyard Annex - open for the public to add to Oct. 25 - Nov. 12.

 Free Family-Friendly Art Activities

  • Face-painting 
  • Art Projects: Sugar Skull Decorating, Tissue Paper Marigolds, and Calavera Masks
  • Treats: A sampling of Mexican hot chocolate and pan de muerto - a sweet bread traditionally enjoyed during Día de Los Muertos
 12 PM  Music Performance by Mariachi Anacatlan
 12:30 PM  Dance Performance by Relampago del Cielo Grupo Folklorico
 1 PM  Music Performance by Mariachi Anacatlan
 1:30 pm  Music Performance by Los Cuates
 2:30 pm  Dance Performance by Xipe Totec Danza Azteca

This event is part of Bowers Museum's monthly Free Family Festival series, generously sponsored by the Nicholas Endowment. Additional support for this month’s Día de Los Muertos Festival is generously provided by First 5 California. Special thanks to Schools First Federal Credit Union, whose lot is available for overflow parking until 3:30 pm.
