Among the world’s ancient civilizations, bronzes in ancient China were probably the most celebrated for their artistic sophistication and technological complexity. The ritual and symbolism of bronze vessels served as essential marks for the political system and power structure. Recent archaeological investigations have revealed stunning new materials, allowing a fresh understanding of the Bronze Age China not recorded in historical texts.
