Presented in Chinese with English translation.

Enjoy a lecture by gold expert Mr. Wang Peng in conjunction with the Bowers' current exhibition, Treasures in Gold & Jade: Masterworks from Taiwan. Themes in this lecture will include gold and its relationship to power, religion and the art of living.

Wang Peng is one of the foremost experts in filigree inlay art, the application of gold and silver wire in creating delicate tracery inlaid with precious stones. He was born in Tianjin, China and now lives in Los Angeles. With over 30 years of jewelry design experience, he is the inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage of metal fine work and filigree inlay skills.

Master Wang has studied and trained under many other masters of Chinese arts. He integrates jade carving, calligraphy, painting, and sculpture into his filigree inlay art, the intangible cultural heritage of China. When combined with the gold, silver, and gemstones that he uses in his artwork, his works become richly steeped in traditional meaning and speak to themes of wealth and harmony.

His artwork grapples with a wide range of subject matters while integrating traditional Chinese cultural elements with Western and modern design concepts. In his work, we can see an artist's perseverance in Chinese traditional handicrafts and an unremitting pursuit of promoting Chinese traditional culture.

Master Wang has lectured at many universities in China and won numerous awards for his art both at home and abroad.
