The Mercurial Transformation in Ancient China with Dr. Fang Hui

Presented by Fang Hui, Yangtze Professor of Archaeology, serving as dean of the Institute of Cultural Heritage, Shandong University and honorary curator of Shandong University Museum.

As a type of mineral pigment, vermilion plays an important role in ritual life in prehistory and early history of China, especially in funeral activities. This lecture examines the archaeological findings of cinnabar remains and offers multifaceted interpretations of its cultural and symbolic implications.
